About the Role:

Our Trust & Safety team is a highly skilled group of policy experts, critical thinkers, and content quality specialists whose mission is to keep our U.S. news aggregation platform safe, accurate, and trustworthy. We are hiring Philippines-based moderators who bring strong editorial judgment—not to produce or edit content, but to apply high editorial standards when reviewing articles. This means assessing accuracy, source credibility, structure, and overall quality while maintaining strict adherence to policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Review articles, posts, videos, photos, and listing content according to established policies, workflows, and quality standards.
  • Evaluate article quality using structured criteria (credibility of sources, factual accuracy, originality, clarity, and adherence to journalistic norms).
  • Distinguish between high-quality reporting, low-quality content, AI-generated material, sponsored/PR content, and “pink-slime” style articles.
  • Conduct timely reviews of content flagged by users or automated systems and escalate when necessary.
  • Fact-check claims at a basic level, verify sources, and identify potential misinformation, misleading framing, or policy violations.
  • Apply complex and evolving policy rules with consistency and a high level of editorial judgment.
  • Investigate nuanced content issues and make sound decisions under time constraints while maintaining accuracy standards.
  • Stay current with U.S. news, politics, culture, and online misinformation trends.
  • Maintain transparent and repeatable review methodology, ensuring consistent decisions even as policies change.
  • Meet daily and weekly performance targets (accuracy, quality, volume, and turnaround time).
  • Provide feedback on unclear policies, edge cases, or workflow challenges to help improve standards and consistency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; majors in Communication, Journalism, English, or related fields a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of online news ecosystems and how credible journalism differs from low quality or deceptive content.
  • Demonstrated experience applying editorial judgment—such as evaluating sources, detecting misleading narratives, recognizing opinion vs. fact—even if not in an editorial job role.
  • Interest and working knowledge of U.S. news, current events, politics, and culture.
  • Experience in content moderation for news, political, or high-risk content strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to interpret and apply complex policy guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills; able to navigate ambiguity and make consistent decisions.
  • Comfortable reviewing sensitive or graphic content (violence, pornography, drug use, child safety, etc.).
  • Ability to work differing work rotations/shifts and non-standard work hours (including weekends & holidays)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; able to clearly articulate decision rationales.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks while maintaining focus and high accuracy.

Preferred Skills (Optional but Helps Target Top Talent)

  • Prior work in fact-checking, journalism, research, policy review, or academic writing
  • Familiarity with AP Style, journalistic ethics, and source validation
  • Experience working with U.S.-based teams or international content workflows
