About The Role

As the first Data Scientist within Resend's Trust & Safety squad, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity of our email platform. Your primary focus will be on identifying abuse patterns, designing specialized data sets, and developing models to prevent malicious activities. This position offers a unique opportunity to wear multiple investigative hats, from analyzing anomaly root causes to building real-time dashboards and alerts. You will collaborate closely with data engineering teams to shape purpose-built data pipelines and stay ahead of evolving email abuse vectors. Your work will directly contribute to facilitating a seamless, secure email experience for good senders and users, ensuring that our platform remains a safe and reliable environment for communication at scale.

Qualifications

Completed a relevant scientific or mathematical degree
Fluent in SQL and Python; JavaScript skills are a plus
Proven ability to productize algorithms for real-time systems
Minimum of 2 years of professional experience working with large data sets
Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate anomalies and identify root causes
Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex models to non-technical stakeholders
Ability to thrive in ambiguous environments and build frameworks independently

Responsibilities

Investigate root causes of anomalies and gang attacks to understand abuse patterns
Design and develop purpose-built data sets for analysis and modeling
Build and maintain dashboards and real-time alerts to monitor behavior and policy violations
Develop machine learning models to prevent abuse at scale with minimal false positives
Collaborate with data engineering teams to shape scalable data pipelines
Stay informed on current email abuse vectors, trends, and emerging threats
Analyze signal effectiveness, including precision, recall, drift, and overlap metrics
Facilitate a zero-friction approach to email sending by identifying and mitigating abuse vectors
