About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist specializing in fraud detection and risk management to support our mission of maintaining a safe and trustworthy environment for our users. In this role, you will analyze complex data sets, generate actionable insights, and develop strategies to prevent fraudulent activities on our platform. Your expertise will be instrumental in shaping our fraud prevention frameworks, driving experimentation, and building data-driven tools that enhance our operational capabilities. Collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and trust & safety teams, you will lead initiatives to measure the effectiveness of anti-fraud strategies, influence product roadmaps, and ensure the integrity of our marketplace. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data analytics, causal inference, and cross-functional leadership, with a passion for solving real-world problems at scale.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in data analysis, data science, or related fields supporting anti-fraud, risk, or trust & safety initiatives

3+ years of experience specifically in fraud detection, risk management, or integrity-related projects

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline (or equivalent work experience)

Advanced SQL skills and experience with modern data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift

Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis, modeling, and experimentation

Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests and applying causal inference techniques

Strong data visualization skills and familiarity with BI tools for creating dashboards and reports

Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex insights for diverse audiences

Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence strategic decision-making

Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a high degree of ownership

Responsibilities

Translate complex data into actionable insights for the fraud engineering and operations teams to mitigate risks effectively

Define, track, and optimize KPIs related to fraud costs, detection strategies, and marketplace impact

Analyze the effectiveness of current anti-fraud measures and collaborate with product and machine learning teams to enhance these strategies

Design, implement, and evaluate experiments to test new fraud prevention features and tactics

Develop frameworks for causal inference and impact measurement outside traditional A/B testing environments

Create dashboards, data pipelines, and self-serve tools to empower teams across the organization

Partner with engineering teams to improve data accessibility, quality, and instrumentation for new product features

Advocate for data-driven decision-making and foster a culture of measurement within the trust & risk organization

Communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing product roadmaps and strategic initiatives

Support investigations into fraud tactics, quantifying their impact and developing long-term protections against emerging threats

Serve as a thought leader, shaping fraud prevention strategies and best practices across the platform
