Overview

Risepoint is seeking a Director, Fraud Detection to serve as the enterprise leader responsible for defining and overseeing all aspects of fraud prevention, detection, and mitigation across the organization.


This role will act as the single owner of fraud detection and operations, partnering cross-functionally with internal teams and university partners to safeguard the integrity of the student lifecycle, from lead through enrollment, while ensuring a seamless and compliant experience.


The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in fraud detection within education or adjacent regulated industries, along with the ability to translate complex risk challenges into scalable, operational solutions.


This role is fully remote and reports to the VP, IT Operations & Security.


Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Fraud Strategy & Leadership

  • Own and evolve Risepoint’s end-to-end fraud detection across the student lifecycle, with special focus on student university application fraud
  • Establish a unified framework for fraud detection, prevention, and response across systems and teams
  • Serve as the central point of accountability for fraud risk across the organization


Detection & Technology Enablement

  • Partner with technology and data teams and vendors to define and implement scalable fraud detection capabilities
  • Evaluate and guide the adoption of tools, platforms, and data signals to strengthen fraud identification
  • Ensure appropriate data capture and visibility to support effective fraud monitoring and decisioning


Operational Alignment & Validation

  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure consistent and effective fraud review and validation processes
  • Align fraud controls with business workflows to minimize friction while maintaining integrity
  • Continuously assess and improve processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness across the lifecycle


Insights, Reporting & Performance Management

  • Define and operationalize fraud metrics, KPIs, and reporting frameworks across the organization
  • Provide clear, actionable insights into fraud trends, risks, and performance at multiple organizational levels
  • Enable data-driven decision-making through structured visibility into fraud across the funnel


Thought Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay ahead of emerging fraud trends, technologies, and regulatory developments
  • Translate external insights into actionable strategies and continuous enhancements


University Collaboration

  • Partner with university stakeholders to align on application fraud prevention and remediation approaches
  • Define scalable practices and shared standards that can be used across partners
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on fraud-related risks and mitigation strategies


Compliance, Risk & Governance

  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure fraud practices align with regulatory requirements
  • Establish governance frameworks for consistent and appropriate handling of fraud cases


Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of experience in fraud strategy, risk management, or trust & safety
  • Proven fraud management experience in education, edtech, financial services, or other regulated industries (higher education experience strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to build and scale fraud programs across complex organizations
  • Strong understanding of fraud detection techniques, data signals, and operational processes
  • Experience working cross-functionally with technology, analytics, operations, and external partners
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
