Position Overview:
We’re looking for a seasoned Software Engineering Manager to lead cross-functional development efforts, support engineers in their growth, and strengthen the quality and integrity of our systems. This is a hands-on leadership role that balances technical oversight with people management and organizational strategy.

You’ll partner closely with stakeholders across product, trust & safety, and infrastructure to ensure timely delivery, platform stability, and a seamless user experience - all while scaling a team that moves fast without breaking things.

The ideal candidate will be based on the West Coast of America working Pacific time zone hours.

Key Responsibilities:
Drive Engineering Execution
Collaborate with both Frontend and Backend teams to ensure feature velocity, architectural soundness, and system reliability.
Lead code reviews - particularly for the backend team - to safeguard quality and build architectural understanding.
Remove blockers for developers by interfacing with internal systems, external vendors, and cross-functional partners.

Lead and Grow the Team
Conduct regular 1:1s to understand developer strengths, technical interests, and career aspirations.
Assign work that balances company objectives with individual growth opportunities.
Build and iterate on onboarding, documentation, and feedback processes that scale with the team.

Recruit and Scale Talent
Identify resourcing gaps and create clear, compelling job descriptions.
Lead hiring processes including sourcing, interviewing, and evaluating candidates.

Own and Solve Core Technical Problems
Take full ownership of core technical problems within your team and when possible escalate technical problems upwards.

Champion Engineering Excellence
Establish and evolve development processes that improve reliability, observability, and code quality.
Encourage a culture of testing, documentation, and thoughtful tech debt management.

Qualifications:
7+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years in a technical leadership or engineering management role.
Strong full-stack fundamentals, with deeper expertise in backend systems, distributed architecture, and platform reliability.
Proven experience leading code reviews and maintaining high-quality software delivery in production environments.
A track record of growing and mentoring engineers at different levels.
Excellent communication skills and a builder’s mindset - you’re motivated by outcomes, not just output.
Experience addressing spam, bots, fraud, or abuse is a strong plus.
Bonus: Familiarity with modern web stacks (Node.js, TypeScript, React), observability tooling, or ML-based spam detection systems.
