Engineering Manager, Trust & Safety - São Paulo, Brazil

DoorDash Brazil
Full-time
On-site
São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil
Engineer

DoorDash is building the world's most reliable on-demand logistics engine for delivery! We're looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Trust & Safety team in our São Paulo engineering hub to lead a team that builds the systems keeping DoorDash's marketplace safe and trustworthy for consumers, merchants, and dashers worldwide.

About the Team

Trust & Safety Engineering is responsible for protecting every interaction on the DoorDash platform — from the moment a user signs up to every message, transaction, and delivery that follows. Our systems process millions of events in real-time, using multiple layers of AI and machine learning to detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and harmful content at scale.

As DoorDash expands across 40+ countries and multiple business lines — including food delivery, grocery, convenience, and package delivery — we are rebuilding our safety platform from the ground up to serve all companies in the DoorDash group globally, covering a massive variety of use cases that go well beyond traditional safety:

  • Content moderation across text, voice, and image — in dozens of languages
  • Real-time fraud and abuse detection
  • Compliance and regulatory enforcement across markets with vastly different rules
  • Decision systems that balance safety, user experience, and operational efficiency

This is a platform problem, not a feature problem. And that's what makes it one of the most technically interesting challenges at DoorDash.

Quick Fact: the Trust & Safety team achieved a significant reduction in post-delivery safety incidents by using AI to monitor conversations between consumers and dashers — protecting thousands of users from seeing inappropriate messages on their phones each year. About the Role

You will lead a team of engineers responsible for the design, evolution, and operation of DoorDash's Trust & Safety platform. Your focus will be on building the next generation of safety systems — a global, multi-product, multi-language moderation and enforcement platform that serves the entire DoorDash ecosystem.

You will partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Legal, and Strategy & Operations to define and deliver a roadmap that integrates AI-driven decisions, real-time content moderation, and robust policy enforcement into high-volume production systems. This platform directly influences user safety, regulatory compliance, and platform integrity. You will own both the technical direction and operational excellence required to run it at scale.

This is not about executing a roadmap from HQ — it's about co-creating the technical strategy and building the team that will own it.

You're excited about this opportunity because you will...

  • Lead and grow a high-performing team engineers focused on safety systems, content moderation, and abuse detection
  • Own the design and architecture of a global safety platform that serves multiple products, countries, and languages
  • Productionize AI-driven moderation and classification models into high-volume, real-time workflows
  • Shape the long-term architecture of systems that balance user safety, regulatory compliance, and platform experience
  • Drive the migration from purpose-built safety tools to a unified, scalable platform serving the entire DoorDash group
  • Mentor engineers in distributed systems design, AI/ML integration, and platform excellence
  • Foster a culture of ownership, velocity, and strong cross-functional collaboration across time zones
  • Partner with Recruiting to build a diverse, inclusive, and high-caliber engineering team in São Paulo

We're excited about you because you have...

  • B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • 7+ years of industry experience in software engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in people management, leading teams of 5+ engineers
  • Experience with distributed system design, system scaling, and performance optimization
  • Experience working with remote teams across different time zones and fluency in English
  • Hands-on leadership style and strong product intuition
  • Humility — willing to get into the details and open to feedback
  • Growth mindset — eager to expand your skill set and carve out your career path in a hyper-growth setting
  • Adaptability and resilience — things change quickly, and you'll help the team evolve

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in Trust & Safety, content moderation, fraud prevention, or abuse detection systems
  • Experience with ML/AI systems in production — model serving, feature stores, real-time inference
  • Experience with Java/Kotlin/Go tech stacks
  • Prior experience building platforms that serve multiple products or business lines
  • Experience in a company that operates across multiple countries and regulatory environments
