Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.
  • 3 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working in house and managing outside counsel.
  • Knowledge of privacy, consumer protection, antitrust, contract, content moderation/safety, or IP law issues in a technology context.
  • Knowledge of and practical working experience in EMEA export controls and sanctions.

As EMEA Export Counsel, you will be part of a team that strives to identify and mitigate relevant legal risks in a non-traditional and ever-changing business.

As a member of Google’s Export Legal team, you will act as an advisor to cross-functional partners, such as Product Counsel, Regulatory Affairs, Policy, and Trust and Safety teams regarding applicable EMEA export control and sanctions laws and regulations. Your work will assist in navigating the uncertain aspects of our business future, identifying creative ways to solve legal problems, and staying true to Google's high ethical standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze EMEA export and sanctions laws and regulations and assess impact on products and services across the Company. 
  • Work closely with the Company's logistics and operations teams by providing legal advice and support to facilitate the export of physical goods from jurisdictions across EMEA.
  • Provide ongoing export and sanctions support to projects and teams across the Company, including responding to ad hoc export control and sanctions queries, as well as providing EMEA export compliance support for Trade Compliance audits.
  • Stay up to date on export control and sanctions developments across EMEA, assessing the implications of these developments on the Company, and working cross-functionally to implement appropriate guidance and changes to the export compliance programme.
  • Prepare license applications and other governmental filings, as needed; complete exporter registrations, draft and review export related policies and procedures.
