About UpScrolled

UpScrolled is an independent social media platform built on a simple idea: people should control what they see, say, and share online.

We exist because we were tired of social media that treats people like products. So we’re building the alternative: a platform where your data stays yours, your voice actually reaches your followers, and your feed belongs to you, not an algorithm.

We’re a small, fast-moving team with a big mission and a community of millions of UpScrollers who joined because they were done waiting for someone else to fix social media. We need people who care about that as much as we do. Come scroll differently with us.

About the Role

We’re hiring a safety architect on the UpScrolled team. UpScrolled is building a social media platform — and we know that how we handle safety will define what kind of platform we become. This isn’t a role about reacting to what’s already broken. It’s about building the systems, frameworks, and culture that make safety structural from the start.

You’ve worked in Trust & Safety, Platform Integrity, or Content Policy before, ideally at a social platform or large online community. You understand that the decisions made in the first months of a platform’s life shape its safety culture for years. You’re operational, structured, and calm under pressure — and you build frameworks instead of managing cases.

What You'll Do

  • Own and manage all requests from government agencies, law enforcement, regulatory authorities, and safety organizations — including establishing standard response protocols, determining legal validity, and maintaining documentation and audit trails
  • Design and implement the platform’s Trust & Safety architecture: content moderation policies, abuse reporting flows, enforcement actions, appeals mechanisms, and safety transparency processes
  • Establish and manage relationships with industry safety partners: PhotoDNA / CSAI Match, NCMEC, GIFCT, trusted flagger programs, and threat intelligence vendors
  • Build internal systems to manage platform safety operations — incident response frameworks, abuse escalation channels, crisis response playbooks, and moderator training
  • Develop community guidelines, transparency reporting frameworks, and enforcement consistency standards
  • Work with leadership to ensure policies balance user safety, free expression, and legal compliance

What Success Looks Like

  • Within 90 days: the platform’s Trust & Safety framework, government request handling protocols, and key safety organization relationships are in place
  • Internal incident response processes are documented and the moderation team knows exactly what to do and when
  • Safety decisions have a defensible, consistent framework behind them — not ad hoc judgment calls
  • The platform has a safety infrastructure that can scale with the user base without being rebuilt

What You Are

  • Experienced in Trust & Safety, Platform Integrity, or Content Policy at a social media platform, marketplace, or large online community
  • Experienced responding to law enforcement and regulatory requests — you know what’s legally valid and what isn’t
  • Familiar with implementing or overseeing hash-matching, abuse detection, and safety technology integrations
  • Structured and operational — you build playbooks and frameworks, not workarounds
  • Calm and decisive when handling high-pressure, high-stakes situations
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-growing startup environment where the structures you build are the first of their kind

What You Are Not

  • Someone who reacts case-by-case without building the infrastructure for consistent decision-making
  • Someone who is only comfortable executing within an already-built safety function — this role requires building one
  • Someone who treats safety and free expression as fundamentally opposed rather than in productive tension
