Join us as Legal Analyst, Data Privacy

Want to do work that really matters?

At Checkatrade, we’re building the UK’s go-to home improvement marketplace. Every day, we help millions of homeowners find the right tradesperson — fast, fair, and without the faff.

As our next Legal Analyst, Data Privacy, you’ll play a key role in helping us operate safely and responsibly as we scale. From supporting privacy reviews across new products and features to ensuring we handle data in line with UK GDPR, your work will help us move forward with confidence, one job at a time.

Forget long lists - here’s what the job really looks like:

  • Supporting data privacy reviews across new features, products, technologies and internal initiatives.

  • Running and documenting DPIAs, TIAs, LIAs and other privacy risk assessments.

  • Maintaining core privacy processes including incident response workflows, retention schedules and internal policies.

  • Drafting and updating privacy notices, internal guidance, templates and playbooks.

  • Reviewing data protection terms in contracts such as DPAs and SCCs.

  • Managing data subject rights enquiries and complaints, and acting as escalation point for the SAR team.

  • Helping triage and document security or privacy incidents, including risk assessments and follow-up actions.

  • Monitoring regulatory updates and summarising implications for the business.

  • Supporting privacy-by-design activity within product and engineering teams.

  • Contributing to documentation of AI-related privacy considerations and responsible AI use.

It’s not about ticking every box - it’s about showing up curious and ready to crack on. You’ll do well here if you bring:

  • Experience as a paralegal or legal analyst in an in-house team or law firm.

  • Working understanding of UK GDPR, DPA 2018 and PECR.

  • Ability to analyse issues, spot risks and ask clear, targeted questions.

  • Strong written communication skills with a pragmatic, concise style.

  • Ability to organise workload, manage deadlines and balance multiple tasks.

  • High-level understanding of how marketplaces, digital products and data flows operate.

  • Curiosity, analytical thinking and the drive to understand how things work.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to make progress independently.

  • Openness to using technology — including AI tools — to improve efficiency.

  • Ambition to grow into a Legal Counsel role as your experience develops.

What’s in it for you

We believe great work deserves great rewards. Here’s just a taste:

  • Competitive salary + annual bonus.

  • Health, well-being and learning support.

  • Gym membership, Smart Tech Scheme and Cycle Scheme.

  • Birthday/Special day leave.

  • Buy & sell holiday scheme.

  • One week’s paid charity leave and much more!

How we’ll get to know each other

  • Screening call with one of our Talent Acquisition Partners.

  • First-stage interview with the Head of Data Privacy.

  • Second-stage interview with stakeholders from Legal, Product or Engineering.

If you require any reasonable adjustments during our interview process, please discuss them with your Talent Acquisition Partner.

If this sounds like the place where you can do your best work, we’d love to hear from you — even if you don’t tick every box.
