Amazon is seeking a self-motivated and high-judgment communications professional to join its Policy Communications and External Affairs team. The team is at the forefront of shaping communications around the most advanced technologies on the planet and helping advocate for policies that enable customer innovation. This role will drive awareness among key media and policy stakeholders of Amazon’s federal advocacy objectives. The right candidate possesses strong media relations and PR experience, is an expert at translating public policy topics into concise and well-written narratives, has experience supporting federal policy initiatives related to retail and technology, and has a demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate enjoys diving deep into public policy topics, understanding how technology and commerce are shaping and redefining our world, and engaging with policy, technology, and business media. They are motivated by a dynamic, collaborative, and highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome. The successful candidate works effectively in a matrixed organization, builds strong working relationships, and maintains high standards under tight deadlines. The candidate must have excellent writing skills, experience driving proactive communications campaigns, and a track record of utilizing strong judgement in high pressure situations.

This role may require periodic travel.

Key job responsibilities
• Work closely with public policy stakeholders to drive awareness of Amazon’s federal advocacy objectives
• Understand Amazon’s retail business and policy priorities, with a finger on the pulse of industry trends and the evolving media landscape
• Develop and drive communications plans, programs, and content in support of Amazon’s federal policy objectives
• Establish and foster media relationships by serving as a trusted source and educator about Amazon
• Provide communications counsel to business leaders
• Work cross-functionally to plan and execute communications campaigns

About the team
The Policy Communications and External Affairs team is at the forefront of shaping communications around the most advanced technologies on the planet and helping advocate for policies that enable customer innovation. Basic Qualifications: - 7+ years of recent professional communications or public relations experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or a related field
- Communications experience with public policy issues in technology, business, or government Preferred Qualifications: - Experience working with national and beltway media
- Experience working with third parties engaged in technology, retail, and commerce policy
- Ability to dive deep into public policy and regulatory issues related to technology, AI, retail, and commerce
- An entrepreneurial spirit, including ability to work independently
- Strong strategic thinking and organizational skills
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to communicate complex topics effectively
- Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done
- Strong judgement, a knack for diplomacy, and the confidence to engage and build consensus with functional leaders at all levels

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $188,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
