About The Role

We are seeking a talented Machine Learning Engineer to join our Safety Engineering team at Patreon. This role is pivotal in developing and deploying machine learning models aimed at reducing risks on our platform, including content moderation, fraud detection, and ensuring account integrity. As part of this team, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners such as product managers, engineers, designers, legal teams, and Trust & Safety operations to design and implement effective machine learning solutions.

Your responsibilities will include conducting exploratory data analyses, developing and iterating on machine learning models using innovative techniques, and deploying these models into production environments. You will also be involved in preparing training data, including leveraging crowdsourcing data labeling techniques, and debugging models based on performance observations. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact by building systems that protect and support our creator and fan communities while working remotely within a dynamic and innovative environment.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
Proficiency in Python or other programming languages suitable for machine learning development
Experience working within an end-to-end machine learning environment, including data analysis, model building, deployment, and monitoring
Strong understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms
Experience with deploying machine learning models into production environments
Ability to write clean, robust, and efficient backend code
Experience with debugging complex systems and performance optimization
Excellent communication skills with the ability to document processes clearly
Curious mindset with a deep dive approach to datasets and product understanding
Growth-oriented attitude with a passion for continuous learning and improvement

Responsibilities

Conduct exploratory data analyses to identify risks and inform model development
Design, develop, and iterate on machine learning models to detect risks and anomalies
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, engineering, legal, and Trust & Safety to create effective ML solutions
Prepare training datasets, utilizing crowdsourcing techniques for data labeling when necessary
Deploy machine learning models into production environments, ensuring scalability and reliability
Write backend code to support model deployment and integration with existing systems
Monitor model performance post-deployment, troubleshoot issues, and optimize models as needed
Document processes, methodologies, and model architectures for transparency and reproducibility
Stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning and incorporate best practices into projects
