We are looking for a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, a senior technical visionary, to be the Principal Technical Lead for the Trust Engineering team. This role involves setting up overall technical strategy, establishing a unified technical architecture, and defining a roadmap for industry-leading methodologies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong hands-on machine learning background, including expertise in deep learning architectures, generative AI, low-resource ML (zero shot, few shot), responsible AI, and large-scale deployment and measurement.
About The Role
As the Principal Trust & Safety (T&S) Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the technical direction, strategy, and health of our Trust Engineering organization. Your primary goal will be to ensure that our technology solutions effectively support business and product requirements to keep Pinterest a safe and positive environment for users. This involves collaborating with other leads to develop and execute a long-term trust strategy, aligning it with broader organizational goals where appropriate, and communicating progress and future plans to leadership.
You will foster a healthy, collaborative community among Trust engineers, encouraging best practices, effective teamwork, and a clear understanding of our technical vision. Additionally, you will act as the main technical decision-maker impacting the entire Pinterest platform, working closely with cross-functional teams such as policy, operations, and legal to address complex challenges and implement scalable solutions.
Qualifications
Deep expertise in building large-scale machine learning systems using modern frameworks
Extensive experience with deep learning architectures and generative AI
Proficiency in low-resource ML techniques such as zero shot and few shot learning
Strong knowledge of responsible AI principles and practices
Proven track record of delivering large, cross-functional projects across multiple organizations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and stakeholder groups
Experience in developing and scaling technical strategies for trust and safety initiatives
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain strong partnerships with product teams to understand and address future technological needs and current developer pain points
Champion and lead large-scale, cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing trust and safety on the platform
Serve as the primary representative for Trust engineering needs, communicating with leadership and prioritizing projects to ensure high-quality capabilities and a superior user experience
Mentor and scale engineering leadership through best practices, processes, training, and tools
Ensure robust technical plans are in place for Trust projects through direct review or delegation
Act as the technical decision-maker for platform-wide impact and collaborate with partners such as policy, operations, and legal teams
