About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our Safety Engineering team at Patreon. This role is critical in developing and deploying machine learning models that enhance platform safety by identifying and mitigating risks related to content, fraud, and account integrity. The ideal candidate will explore complex data sets, develop signals, and build models that operate effectively at scale. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including product, engineering, legal, and Trust & Safety—to design practical ML solutions that seamlessly integrate into existing workflows. Your responsibilities will include data analysis, model prototyping, deployment, and continuous improvement based on real-world feedback. This is a remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere while contributing to a mission-driven organization committed to protecting its community.

Qualifications

• Masters degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant Machine Learning experience.
• Proficiency in Python or similar programming languages used in machine learning and backend development.
• Experience in developing end-to-end machine learning systems, including data exploration, signal development, model training, deployment, and monitoring.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms, techniques, and best practices.
• Ability to analyze and prepare training data, including working with crowdsourced labeling and human-in-the-loop processes.
• Experience deploying models into production environments and maintaining their performance over time.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a systematic approach to debugging complex systems.
• Strong communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Passion for building responsible AI systems that support platform safety and user trust.
  
  

Responsibilities

• Explore and analyze data to develop signals and features that identify platform risks related to content, fraud, and account integrity.

• Prepare and curate training datasets, leveraging crowdsourcing and human-in-the-loop methods to enhance model accuracy.
• Prototype, train, and iterate on machine learning models, employing both established and innovative techniques.
• Deploy models into production environments, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Write backend code to support ML models and integrate signals into platform workflows.
• Build observability into models, monitor their performance, and debug issues as they arise.
• Continuously improve models based on offline evaluations, A/B testing, and real-world results.
• Document design decisions, methodologies, and findings to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.
