Overview

The Digital Safety Unit sits within Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs division whose vision is to empower every person to have safer digital experiences. The Digital Safety Unit (DSU) leads Microsoft’s global efforts to protect people, especially children, from online harms across its services. 

We are seeking an outstanding Policy Program Manager to join our Digital Safety team. As a Policy Program Manager, you will play a key role in how we develop and implement product policy requirements and safety reviews for our wide range of services. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic team on critical issues of company-wide and importance



Responsibilities

Responsibilities 

  • Lead safety by design assessments for consumer products, especially AI-driven services, by setting safety requirements, developing risk mitigation initiatives, and managing case reviews.  

  • Serve as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of Digital Safety objectives. Support the implementation of safety-by-design principles across product and engineering teams 

  • Build relationships across Microsoft to orchestrate and integrate safety-by-design materials into product and feature development. Lead implementation efforts for safety partnerships and cross-functional projects 

  • Manage, document, and drive progress to uphold responsible Digital Safety requirements across a diverse group of Microsoft engineering, sales, and research teams. 

  • Design and execute internal change management practices and communications strategies that support complex projects, including updates to self-serve safety-by-design materials and content policy updates.  

  • Design, implement, and own processes for responding to internal and external information requests related to digital safety.      

  • Build relationships to orchestrate and integrate Digital Safety guidance into product and feature development. Lead implementation efforts for safety partnerships and cross-functional projects. 

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to develop, implement, and continuously improve governance programs and processes to ensure that specific requirements and standards are met throughout the development lifecycle. Partner with Legal, Public Policy, and engineering teams to integrate timely and relevant safety information into program materials.     

  • Develop and deliver training materials and resources to support safety-by-design and content policy awareness and adoption across teams. Contribute to the creation, governance, and maintenance of program documentation, including materials owned by other teams.     



Qualifications
 
 

Required/Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in trust and safety, corporate affairs, legal affair
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience in Digital Safety, trust and safety, content moderation, or related area  

Additional or Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in program management supporting online safety.  

  • Experience managing a Digital Safety, trust and safety, or related program.  

  • Experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.  

  • Specific subject matter expertise with product policy for productivity applications or AI safety. 

 

 



Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
