Privacy Counsel (Interim)

About the Opportunity

A leading global technology platform is seeking an experienced Privacy Counsel to join its Product Privacy Legal team. This role supports customer-facing products, identity verification processes, and trust and safety initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.

Working closely with product, engineering, privacy, compliance, and legal teams, you will play a key role in advising on privacy risks, supporting product development, and ensuring compliance with evolving global privacy and AI regulations.

The Role

This is a highly visible position supporting global consumer products and trust engineering initiatives. You will act as a key privacy adviser across a range of customer-facing features and services, partnering with stakeholders across legal, product, engineering, privacy, and regional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on privacy issues relating to customer onboarding journeys, AI-enabled product features, and the wider data lifecycle.
  • Provide legal guidance on identity verification, fraud prevention, authentication technologies, and related data-sharing arrangements.
  • Support product teams from concept through launch, embedding privacy-by-design principles throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Help stakeholders identify practical risk mitigation solutions relating to data minimisation, purpose limitation, transparency, and consent mechanisms.
  • Draft and review privacy compliance documentation, including Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs).
  • Partner with legal, privacy, product, and engineering teams to identify privacy requirements early in the development process.
  • Collaborate with regional counsel across multiple jurisdictions to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements while maintaining alignment with global standards.
  • Provide privacy-related support on vendor agreements and other commercial arrangements.
  • Monitor developments in privacy, AI, consumer protection, and data regulation, translating legal changes into practical business guidance.
  • Support complex product launches, vendor integrations, and other high-risk processing activities globally.

About You

You will be an experienced privacy lawyer with a strong background advising on technology products and complex data processing activities.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years' post-qualification experience in privacy, data protection, and technology law.
  • Strong expertise in GDPR, international privacy frameworks, and emerging AI regulation.
  • CIPP qualification(s) desirable.
  • Significant experience supporting digital products and high-risk processing activities, particularly within identity verification, authentication, fraud prevention, or related areas.
  • Proven experience drafting privacy compliance documentation and delivering complex privacy projects, including DPIAs, major product launches, and vendor integrations.
  • Strong understanding of privacy-by-design principles and product development processes.
  • Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives while advising senior stakeholders.
  • Experience within a multinational technology business or similarly fast-paced environment is highly desirable.
  • Excellent judgement, adaptability, and ability to work independently.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across global teams.
