Responsibilities
The Trust & Safety Policy team works to make TikTok a safe and trusted place where people and communities can experience joy, creativity and meaningful connection. We develop principled, common-sense, operable policies, enable their implementation at scale, and ensure consistent enforcement so users can safely create, connect and thrive.

The Regional Policy team leads policy escalations, provides regional insight, and manages policy issues across TikTok and other ByteDance products. We are the single window between T&S Policy and the markets we operate in, making defensible policy decisions for those markets in line with our Community Guidelines.

We are looking for a Regional Policy Manager for Asia Pacific.

The role covers Japan primarily, and potentially other markets in the region.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary policy point of contact for your markets, leading all policy escalations and crisis management
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with executive regional stakeholders across GR, Comms, Legal, Product, Operations and business teams to manage market risks and provide a policy perspective to all market issues
- Monitor emerging social media trends, user behaviours and regulatory developments in your markets, and aggregate insights from escalations and market management to inform policy development and iteration
This role involves occasional exposure to challenging or distressing content when providing policy assessments on emerging trends and escalations.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualification(s)
- Deep understanding of the Asia-Pacific region, particularly Japan, including regional sociocultural norms and public discourse on content safety.
- Demonstrated interest in the impact of technology, media, and cultural trends on content safety.
- Ability to formulate accurate, balanced, principled, and defensible policy assessments in a dynamic environment or ambiguous situations.
- Strong prioritisation and execution skills, with the ability to balance core responsibilities and critical policy-related projects.
- Experience in policy development, policy enforcement, public policy, or escalations management
- Proficiency in Japanese and English is required to collaborate with global partners and key stakeholders based in Japanese-speaking markets where Japanese is a primary working language.

Preferred Qualification(s)
- A motivated, collaborative, and adaptable mindset, with a can-do attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and adapt to the day-to-day demands of the role.

Trust & Safety
Content that this role interacts with includes images, video, and text related to every-day life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying; hate speech; child safety; depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals. Hence, it is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content on a daily basis.
