Senior Backend / Data Engineer

The world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service is looking for a Senior Backend/Data Engineer to join the band in a consultant assignment. The client has transformed music listening forever when launched in 2008.

Period: 2026-01-26 to 2026-07-25 (full-time), with a possibility of extension.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend / Data Engineer to join Safe-and-Sound, the centralized Safety team within the AI Foundations Studio. We build state-of-the-art solutions to meet all safety needs for the studio. Our product suite covers a range of core assets on the platform (such as Search, Home / Podcast recommendations) and newer GenAI products (such as AI Playlisting, video trailers), tier 0 services like Recs Filtering, and production pipelines serving products like Search and Home. We work closely with squads in Tech Research and Trust & Safety to prototype and develop novel techniques to continually push the envelope and think more deeply about holistic content and user sensitivity.

We’re seeking someone experienced in data development with an interest in t-shaping into backend-or vice versa. You will build the backend/data systems that power our application, scale highly distributed systems serving our state-of-the-art solutions in production, and continuously improve our engineering practices. Above all, your work will impact the way the world experiences music.

• Design technical specifications with product partners

• Write large-scale, production-quality data pipelines

• Architect, design, develop, deploy, and operate services for the team that serve millions of users

• Be a technical leader within your team and across the company

• Be a valued member of an autonomous, cross-functional agile team

• Lead the client-wide backend/data developer community, influencing and driving architecture decisions

• Participate in hack days and bi-annual hack weeks

Who you are

• Experienced in delivering end-to-end, production-quality data/backend solutions at scale

• Skilled in designing tech specs and modular architectures for frameworks in ambiguous problem spaces

• Expertise with Ray, Hendrix, Scio, Java, Python, dbt, BigQuery, SQL

• Interested in collaborating across multiple teams and disciplines

• Comfortable taking ownership in complex, ambiguous problem spaces
