As a Senior Data Scientist supporting the Security Product Line, you are a member of a global team of data-driven builders and influencers, implementing cutting-edge AI technologies to stop bad actors and mature HubSpot’s security posture. We are expanding our team and are looking for a skilled, highly resourceful Senior Data Scientist to join our team and help make a significant impact.

As a member of the Security Analytics team, you will play a critical role in preventing, detecting and mitigating abuse on our platform through data-driven insights and analytics. You will apply your expertise in machine learning to enhance security efforts, drive automation and develop AI-centric solutions

HubSpot’s Trust & Safety team uses multiple sources of data (3rd party reports, payments validators, phishing/spam models, etc) to discover what is occurring at the time of signup, during a transaction, and when sending outbound content such as emails or text messages to customers. Data Scientists -- individuals with high data literacy, data modeling expertise, intellectual curiosity, and strong communication skills -- are at the center of these analyses and decisions. We work closely with Product Management and Engineering leadership to inform and build better solutions for our customers.

The role would ideally suit anyone with 3 or more years experience as a data scientist, ML engineer, data engineer or statistical software developer. Strong coding skills in Python and SQL are required, to help with data analysis, statistical modeling and automation. Some prior software development experience with Java and Large Language Models (LLMs) would be a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and deploy scalable machine learning models for risk assessment, fraud detection, anomaly detection, customer clustering, and other key risk-mitigation initiatives..
Partner with product stakeholders to understand your team’s data and business needs; become an expert in translating these needs into specific analyses with actionable insights
Be comfortable querying large volumes of data to extract, transform and prepare data for analysis.
Analyze complex datasets of structured & unstructured data using advanced analytics to generate actionable insights; communicate insights to your stakeholders with a data-driven point of view and plan for action

Examples Of Common Projects

Build and implement data-driven models using real-time data in APIs across different sources to evaluate and mitigate potential harm to customers and ultimately to HubSpot
Perform ad hoc analyses into user behavior to inform specific, near-term experiment designs or product decisions or longer-term product strategy
Partner with engineering and other internal operations teams to enable a high level of data integrity, consistency and clarity across multiple internal databases and reporting systems
Be a voice within your teams to educate, elevate and advocate for the continual value of leveraging analytics to inform decision making

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master’s degree (or work equivalent) in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology, Operations Research or a related field.
3+ years of experience in a data science, ML engineer, data engineer or software developer role, preferably within a marketing or tech start-up environment.
Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation and summarization; experience working with large datasets; particularly data mining, manipulation and exploration
Comfort with machine learning tools and statistical tools such as Python, including key libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, and scikit-learn, along with strong expertise in version control tools like Git
Confidence using a variety of analytical and statistical techniques
Passionate about the role of data in helping solve complex questions
Excellent communication, storytelling, and collaboration skills
Prior experience working with generative AI chatbots or Large Language Models is highly desirable.

Above And Beyond Qualifications

Knowledge of analytical development tools such as Amplitude, Looker, Git, Snowflake and dbt.
Demonstrated passion for building products that delight customers and drive their success
Experience working at, or a strong understanding of, a SaaS business.
Experience building and deploying data models to prevent abuse and misuse of the product.
Domain expertise in Trust & Safety, Financial Fraud, or Product Security is a huge plus!

Pay & Benefits

The cash compensation below includes base salary, on-target commission for employees in eligible roles, and annual bonus targets under HubSpot’s bonus plan for eligible roles. In addition to cash compensation, some roles are eligible to participate in HubSpot’s equity plan to receive restricted stock units (RSUs). Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay.
