Senior Public Policy Advisor (APAC)

Discord is used by over 200 million people every month for many different reasons, but there's one thing that nearly everyone does on our platform: play video games. Over 90% of our users play games, spending a combined 1.5 billion hours playing thousands of unique titles on Discord each month. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming. We are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to talk and hang out before, during, and after playing games.

We are looking to hire an exceptional Public Policy Advisor to support Discord's work with governments and policymakers in Australia, Japan and across the Asia Pacific region.

As an Advisor, you'll have the opportunity to design and lead engagement strategies to shape how Discord is perceived by stakeholders in key markets in APAC, initially including Australia and Japan. You'll report to the Head of Asia Pacific Public Policy and collaborate broadly with Discord's public policy, legal, trust & safety, communications and business teams.

What you'll be doing

• Build understanding of Discord amongst policymakers and stakeholders.
• Advocate for Discord's positions on key legislative and regulatory initiatives that will impact our users and business.
• Engage in coalitions with peer companies.
• Design and execute initiatives that demonstrate Discord's value to the game developer community.
• Partner cross-functionally with the public policy, legal, trust & safety, communications and business teams
  
  

What you should have

• 10+ years experience in government, public policy and/or government affairs.
• Deep insight into policymaking processes.
• Ability to execute multi-year strategic public affairs programs.
• Work experience in technology public policy issues and initiatives, including in online safety, privacy and related areas.
• Ability to translate complex information into clear narratives for non-technical audiences.
• Strong relationship building skills.
