As our Legal Operations Lead in Trust and Safety, you’ll be at the forefront of managing critical legal workflows while training a team to handle them effectively. Role Overview:As our Senior Trust and Safety (T&S) Lead, you’ll report directly to the head of T&S and work alongside them, and other leaders across the organization, to help make Bluesky a safe and enjoyable experience for our 30+ million users. You will often design new processes or improve existing approaches to keep up with our growing user base. This is a 0→1 role, perfect for someone with an entrepreneurial mindset who thrives in building from scratch in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities: Scaling Content Moderation:
- Build and scale content moderation processes that align with Bluesky’s policies and decentralized infrastructure.
- Develop data-driven strategies to mitigate abuse and other user safety risks.
- Work with engineering to improve moderation tooling, automation, and transparency in enforcement decisions.
Legal & Policy Development:
- Support the development and implementation of trust & safety policies that evolve with user behavior and legal and regulatory requirements.
- Lead and manage workflows for law enforcement requests, such as information, takedown, and withholding requests, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Handle copyright and trademark-related issues, including takedown notices and enforcement of IP rights.
- Manage data privacy workflows, including responding to GDPR requests and other customer inquiries regarding their data.
Safety by Design & Product Collaboration:
- Conduct risk assessments and incorporate safety by design principles into the development of new features on the app, while enabling the rapid product development velocity that comes with a startup environment.
- Advocate for and help design tooling that will increase user safety, or help meet regulatory compliance efforts.
What We Are Looking For:
- 5+ years of progression in T&S at a tech company, preferably in the social media space, with exposure to a breadth of areas from policy, to legal ops, to T&S operations.
- Strategic perspective combined with ruthless prioritization, to work on the right things scaled to our capabilities and resources.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build systems and processes in ambiguous environments.
- Hands-on experience solving difficult problems.
- Proven leadership and team-building skills. Strong team player.
- Assets:
- Deep understanding of legal workflows and policies related to law enforcement, IP, and data privacy.
- Experience in product trust/risk, safety by design
- Experience in scaling content moderation operations globally
