Senior Trust and Safety Manager, Investigation & Law Enforcement Response

Location: Seattle preferred; open to candidates working remotely on the West Coast

Salary: $125,000 - $160,000 plus bonus

About the Role

Sniffies is building out a dedicated Trust & Safety function, and this is one of its first roles. As Trust & Safety Manager, Investigations and Law Enforcement Response, you will handle our most serious safety cases and serve as the operational point of contact for law enforcement on a platform with around 3 million monthly users and 20 million messages a day.

You will investigate escalated cases end-to-end and determine outcomes in accordance with established enforcement standards. You will process inbound legal requests, including preservation letters, subpoenas, search warrants, court orders, and emergency disclosure requests, assessing each for validity, scope, and jurisdiction, and preparing the response for review. You will file NCMEC CyberTipline reports, prepare law enforcement referrals where a case warrants one, and maintain the record supporting both.

This is a build role as well as a casework role. Rather than working inside an established system, you will develop and deploy the tooling this work depends on, from legal process intake and deadline tracking through to data retrieval and production. It suits someone who has been frustrated by a poorly designed legal request workflow and would rather design their own.

This is an individual contributor role suited to someone with sound judgment under time pressure, a high standard for documentation, and the instinct to escalate early rather than late.

Key Responsibilities

Escalated Investigations

• Conduct end-to-end investigations of escalated safety cases, including cases focused on suspected underage users, CSAM, credible threats of in-person harm, and extortion.
• Determine enforcement outcomes within established standards, and work with Trust & Safety and company leadership to drive resolution for cases that fall outside them.
• Comprehensively document investigative findings, evidence, and rationale to a standard that holds up under outside review.

Legal Process and Disclosure

• Process preservation requests, subpoenas, search warrants, court orders, and emergency disclosure requests, tracking each against its deadline.
• Assess requests for validity, scope, and jurisdiction, and prepare a recommendation on what is responsive.
• Partner with Legal to ensure responses are complete and compliant.
• Develop and deploy the tooling this work depends on, covering legal process intake and tracking through to data retrieval and production.
• Maintain the disclosure record, including what was produced, to whom, under what authority, and when.

Reporting and Referrals

• File NCMEC CyberTipline reports and manage the preservation and follow-up obligations that attach to them.
• Prepare law enforcement referrals where a case warrants one, and serve as the point of contact through follow-up.
• Keep the record supporting each report and referral.

Casework Intelligence and Program Support

• Track patterns across serious cases and identify where policy, detection, or a product surface is failing.
• Brief Policy and Product on gaps and vulnerabilities, with enough specificity to act on.
• Help maintain the investigation guidance, response templates, and escalation paths this work depends on.
• Support our moderation team's escalation path so serious cases reach you quickly and with the context you need.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in trust and safety investigations, law enforcement response, or a closely related field.
• Working knowledge of the legal process requests a US platform receives, including preservation requests, subpoenas, search warrants, court orders, and emergency disclosure requests, and the differences between what each compels.
• Experience with NCMEC CyberTipline report filing.
• Comfort making time-pressured decisions on incomplete information and documenting those decisions so they hold up under outside review.
• Ability to work with graphic and distressing material, including CSAM, on an ongoing basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience at a platform with in-person meetup dynamics.
• Familiarity with obligations under the EU Digital Services Act, the UK Online Safety Act, or Australia's Online Safety Act.
• Experience working through an outsourced moderation vendor's escalation path.
• Experience building an investigations process rather than only operating one.
