Engineer
At Amazon, we hire the best minds in technology to innovate and build on behalf of our customers. The focus we have on our customers is why we are one of the world's most beloved brands – customer obsession is part of our company DNA. Our Software Development Engineers (SDEs) use technology to solve complex problems and get to see the impact of their work first-hand.

What You'll Work On
As an SDE-2 in Buyer Abuse Engineering, you will design, build, and operate large-scale distributed systems that sit at the heart of Amazon's abuse prevention pipeline. Your work will span across detection, investigation tooling, and outcome execution β€” with direct, measurable impact on customer trust and marketplace health.

Key areas of ownership include:

Scalable Distributed Systems – Design and build high-throughput, low-latency services that process abuse signals, support investigator workflows, and execute enforcement actions reliably across millions of transactions.
Outcome Processing & Enforcement – Build platforms that transform investigation decisions into secure, auditable actions β€” whether account restrictions, holds, or graduated interventions β€” with full traceability for compliance and customer appeal.
Investigator Tooling & Abuse Detection – Develop tools and services that empower human investigators and automated systems to identify and act on abuse patterns efficiently and accurately.
Context-Aware Decision Systems – Contribute to systems that consider customer history, behavior patterns, and risk profiles to apply proportionate, context-sensitive responses rather than one-size-fits-all enforcement.
Security & Auditability – Enforce strict security controls, comprehensive logging, and separation of concerns to support compliance, audit requirements, and customer recourse workflows.
Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with product managers, applied scientists, and peer engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions that balance abuse prevention with customer experience.

What We're Looking For
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about building resilient, high-impact systems from scratch while managing ambiguity in a fast-paced environment where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years. You should be comfortable owning end-to-end delivery of complex features, driving technical decisions, and collaborating across teams.

The problems you'll solve are consequential β€” your systems will protect Amazon's marketplace while ensuring customers are treated fairly, with the opportunity to appeal and correct behavior before facing permanent consequences. If you thrive in environments where engineering excellence meets real-world customer impact, we'd love to hear from you.

We operate at the intersection of trust, safety, and customer experience β€” where the systems we build directly influence how Amazon protects its customers and sellers globally.
