About The Role
The Senior Staff Software Engineer - Delivery Experience (DelEx) at DoorDash plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the company's support and delivery ecosystem. This leadership position involves designing and executing large-scale, reliable platforms that integrate advanced AI and machine learning technologies to improve customer support, real-time tracking, and agent assistance. You will be responsible for defining technical strategies, influencing cross-functional teams, and leading the development of mission-critical systems that scale to support exponential growth. Your work will directly impact customer satisfaction, retention, and trust by delivering innovative solutions such as AI-powered chatbots, context-aware refunds, and intelligent agent tools.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with product managers, machine learning engineers, designers, and operations teams to develop a cohesive technical roadmap. You will also mentor engineering teams, promote best practices in system design, testing, and reliability, and operate hands-on to resolve complex distributed systems challenges. Your leadership will help lay the groundwork for DoorDash’s next decade of growth while pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities in support services.
Qualifications
8+ years of industry experience in software engineering or related fields.
Proven track record of delivering large-scale, high-impact systems.
Deep expertise in distributed systems, real-time data pipelines, or large-scale platform development.
Experience applying machine learning and large language models (LLMs) in production environments, especially in support, trust & safety, or related domains (preferred).
Strong technical intuition with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Ability to balance visionary thinking with pragmatic execution, leveraging existing patterns and inventing new solutions when necessary.
Humility and a growth mindset, leading through collaboration and expertise.
Comfort with ambiguity and a bias for action in fast-paced environments.
Excellent judgment in evaluating options, making decisions, and managing complex systems.
Responsibilities
Provide technical vision and architectural leadership for large teams (50+ engineers) working on multi-year platform rebuilds to support 100x growth.
Partner with Machine Learning teams to build and productionize LLM-powered chatbots, context-aware refunds, and intelligent agent copilots that enhance customer support.
Rebuild and optimize mission-critical systems such as real-time order tracking and messaging platforms to ensure reliability, performance, and extensibility across markets.
Drive cross-team alignment by collaborating with product, engineering, and operations stakeholders to define technical roadmaps and priorities.
Mentor and elevate engineering teams by promoting best practices in system design, testing, reliability, and maintainability.
Engage directly in complex distributed systems challenges, including infrastructure scaling, performance optimization, and resiliency improvements.
Introduce and champion engineering culture initiatives that foster innovation, quality, and long-term system health.
