Sr. Risk Mining Manager, Safety Investigations

Amazon
Full-time
On-site
San José, Costa Rica
Manager
We are looking for a Sr. Risk Manager who can elevate and scale our Product Safety Investigations team. In this role, you will bring strong judgment, analytical depth, and a builder mindset to help shape how Amazon detects, evaluates, and resolves product-related safety risks.

You will investigate complex issues when needed, but your greatest impact will come from creating mechanisms that make the team faster, clearer, and more consistent. You will define mental models for decision-making, improve how information flows, and partner with Product, Tech and Science teams to automate manual steps. You will translate ambiguous customer signals into structured frameworks that the team can apply at scale.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys diving deep into cases but is equally energized by stepping back and redesigning the system that processes them. You will influence global product safety practices, collaborate with cross-functional partners, and help build a high-performing team. If you want to design scalable processes, modernize workflows with AI, and shape how safety investigations operate at Amazon, this role offers a unique opportunity to lead meaningful change.

Key job responsibilities
- Build scalable mechanisms that improve investigation quality, speed, and consistency across the team.
- Establish clear mental models and decision frameworks that guide the team’s judgment on safety risks.
- Partner with Product, Tech and Science teams to identify automation opportunities, integrate AI tools, and streamline manual workflows.
- Lead or support complex investigations and escalations, ensuring clear documentation and customer-obsessed recommendations.
- Analyze data to uncover patterns, systemic issues, or signals that require program-level action.
- Write clear narratives that explain risk, root cause, and recommended solutions to senior audiences.
- Mentor team members, raising the bar on clarity, structure, and judgment.
- Identify long-term improvements to the safety ecosystem and drive cross-functional alignment to implement them.

A day in the life
Your day may start by reviewing a complex case or validating whether a customer signal represents a real risk. From there, you may shift to mapping a workflow gap, refining a decision tree, or working with a Tech partner to automate a step in the process. You will frequently coach teammates, clarify judgment calls, and ensure the team has the tools and frameworks to move quickly and confidently. Most days blend investigation depth with system-building and collaboration.

- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent
