Staff Product Designer - Trust & Safety

Bumble Inc.
Full-time
On-site
Austin, Texas, United States
$225,000 - $255,000 USD yearly

At Bumble, our mission is to build equitable relationships across love, life, and work — and trust is foundational to that promise. Keeping people safe, respected, and empowered to set boundaries has been core to our identity since the beginning, when we first reimagined dating by putting women in control of the connection moment. Today, that commitment lives on across our platform. Our Trust & Safety team sits at the heart of this work, partnering across Product, Engineering, Legal, and Operations to design systems that protect users while preserving warmth, agency, and joy.

As a Staff Product Designer focused on Trust & Safety, you’ll lead design across high-impact, high-stakes problem spaces where clarity, empathy, and responsibility matter deeply.

You’ll shape both user-facing safety experiences and the internal tools that support moderation, enforcement, and care at scale. This is a Staff-level individual contributor role, grounded in design excellence, systems thinking, and lived expression of Bumble values like Respect, Courage, and Curiosity.

AI-powered tools are increasingly part of how we design, evaluate, and scale safety experiences, and you’ll play a key role in applying them thoughtfully and ethically to improve outcomes for users and teams alike.

What You'll Do
  • Lead end-to-end product design for Trust & Safety initiatives, from early discovery through launch and iteration, across both user-facing safety flows and internal safety tooling that supports moderation, enforcement, and appeals.
  • Bring high-level craft to all that you design, always looking for innovative ways to empower our users to connect safely on our platform.
  • Translate complex Trust & Safety requirements — including policy, legal, and operational constraints — into clear, humane, and scalable product experiences that help users feel protected without feeling policed.
  • Partner deeply with Product, Engineering, Research, Data, Legal, and Trust Operations to align on strategy, define success metrics, and deliver solutions that balance safety, equity, and user agency.
  • Design systems and patterns for reporting, blocking, education, enforcement, and recovery that can evolve with new risk signals, regulations, and cultural contexts.
  • Champion the user voice by grounding decisions in research, qualitative insights, data, and lived empathy, particularly for users from historically marginalised or vulnerable communities.
  • Set the bar for design craft and decision-making at the Staff level, offering feedback, critique, and mentorship that elevate peers and strengthen a culture of Excellence and Curiosity.
  • Embed AI-enabled tools and workflows into the design process — from rapid exploration and prototyping to evaluating safety signals — while advocating for responsible, transparent, and human-centred use.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally, take ownership of outcomes, and adapt plans with an agile mindset as Trust & Safety needs evolve.

About You
  • Typically requires 8–10 years of experience, though we welcome candidates with alternative backgrounds that demonstrate equivalent skills.
  • Proven experience designing complex consumer products, with demonstrated depth in Trust & Safety, platform integrity, risk mitigation, or other high-stakes domains where user well-being is critical.
  • Strong end-to-end product design skills, spanning interaction design, systems thinking, and polished UI, with the ability to simplify complexity without losing nuance.
  • Comfort operating at Staff scope: you independently define problem spaces, influence strategy, and make sound design decisions amid ambiguity and competing constraints.
  • Experience collaborating closely with cross-functional partners, including Engineering, Product, Legal, and Operations, and communicating clearly with stakeholders at multiple levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to role-model Bumble values like Respect and Courage, especially when navigating sensitive topics, trade-offs, and difficult conversations.
  • Fluency with modern design tools (e.g., Figma, prototyping tools) and curiosity about how AI can responsibly support design exploration, evaluation, and scale.
  • A collaborative, low-ego mindset: you take ownership, see work through from insight to impact, and continuously learn in service of safer, more equitable experiences.
