About The Role

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will lead architectural efforts for Quizlet’s identity, messaging, and trust & safety platforms. You’ll design secure and scalable systems for authentication, consent, and privacy, while guiding other engineers and influencing cross-team initiatives. Your work will ensure our infrastructure is resilient, compliant, and built for long-term growth.

This is an onsite position in our San Francisco office, with a minimum of three days per week onsite: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

In this role, you will

Lead architecture for authentication, authorization, and account management systems
Build frameworks for consent management, secure messaging, and user protection
Modernize legacy systems to improve scalability, observability, and compliance
Partner with product, legal, and data teams to align trust & safety priorities
Mentor engineers and help define long-term technical standards


What You Bring To The Table

8+ years of backend/platform engineering experience, with expertise in identity or trust systems
Demonstrated success leading cross-functional technical initiatives
Strong knowledge of secure system design and data protection
Hands-on experience with Node.js, Go, Python, or TypeScript
Ability to influence technical direction and mentor peers

Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a starting base salary of $220,700 - $268,100, depending on location and experience, as well as company stock options
