About the Role

At eBay, trust is foundational to our marketplace. As a Counterfeit Specialist you’ll play a hands-on role in protecting buyers, sellers, and brands by strengthening how we detect, assess, and mitigate counterfeit risk at scale—using real data, expert judgment, and cross-team collaboration.

This role will support our enterprise-wide anticounterfeiting efforts within the Intellectual Property Risk & Compliance team. This role is also critical to ensuring accurate counterfeit identification and effective risk mitigation across Luxury categories (handbags, apparel, footwear, watches, & fashion), in addition to other focus and non-focus categories.

As a subject-matter expert embedded in the counterfeit workstream, you will help develop and maintain high-quality knowledge base resources, deliver expert insights grounded in real marketplace data, and collaborate cross-functionally to drive timely, well-informed counterfeit and IP risk mitigation strategies. Your work will directly inform enforcement decisions, model improvements, and broader anticounterfeiting outcomes across the marketplace.

What You’ll Do

  • Counterfeit Identification & Analysis: Review and assess listings, seller behavior, and marketplace signals to accurately identify counterfeit risk within the Luxury categories while supporting counterfeit detection efforts across additional focus and non-focus categories as needed.

  • Knowledge Development: Create, maintain, and continuously improve counterfeit-related knowledge resources, guidelines, and training materials to support consistent and accurate enforcement.

  • Model & Prompt Enablement: Provide expert insights and real-world examples to improve model prompts, detection logic, and decision frameworks based on observed marketplace trends.

  • Marketplace Insights: Analyze counterfeit patterns, emerging risks, and enforcement outcomes to inform proactive mitigation strategies.

  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Partner closely with Legal, Brand Relations, Risk, Business, and GCX Operations teams to align on IP or counterfeit risk assessments and execute timely mitigation actions.

  • Execution Support: Support investigations, escalations, and enforcement actions by providing category-specific counterfeit expertise.

  • Quality & Accuracy: Ensure high standards of accuracy, consistency, and defensibility in counterfeit determinations and documentation.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify gaps in processes, tools, and knowledge and recommend improvements to strengthen eBay’s anticounterfeiting capabilities.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in brand protection, intellectual property enforcement, trust & safety, compliance, risk, investigations, or a related field

  • Strong understanding of counterfeit risks, intellectual property rights, and marketplace enforcement models

  • Deep understanding of branded attributes in the Luxury and Fashion space, including brand markers, materials, construction, labeling, and authentication signals used to identify counterfeit risk.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply policy and knowledge frameworks to real-world marketplace data

  • Experience contributing to knowledge bases, training materials, or operational guidance

  • Analytical attitude with strong attention to detail and sound judgment

  • Ability to synthesize complex information and deliver clear, actionable insights

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across legal, technical, and business stakeholders

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment
