The Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT) envisions a world in which the technology sector marshals its collective creativity and capacity to render terrorists and violent extremists ineffective online. Position Summary


GIFCT is seeking an organized and curious intern to support the day-to-day work of its Memberships and Programs team. The intern will assist with conducting preliminary research and open-source intelligence into companies looking to join GIFCT, including early human rights assessments, reviewing companies’ against GIFCT’s Membership Criteria, and mapping companies that could benefit from GIFCT support. 


This position will also allow the successful applicant to work across wider Membership & Programs projects, including assisting with annual member reviews and working to refine and further update GIFCT’s Definitions and Legislation Project


This is a generalist role offering broad exposure to the operations of a fast-paced organization working at the intersection of technology, trust and safety, and counterterrorism policy. Responsibilities may include drafting communications, maintaining organizational records, supporting event and meeting logistics, and contributing to research or reporting tasks as needed.


Strong written communication and organizational skills are required. An interest in tech policy, trust and safety, human rights, or international security is a plus.


Role Description


AREA 1: Membership Advisory Program

Supporting GIFCT’s Membership Advisory Program. This includes; conducting open-source research into Advisee companies, looking up companies’ human rights commitments, and reviewing companies’ against GIFCT’s Membership Criteria.


AREA 2: Membership Support

Assisting in the annual member review process, to ensure member companies are in good standing with the Membership Criteria. 

Mapping wider companies that could benefit from GIFCT tools and resources. 


AREA 3: Definitions and Legislation Project

Helping inform updates to the Definitions and Legislation Project such as adding new case studies and reviewing additional resources to add to the site. 


Other Duties as Assigned

Qualifications and Experience

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines with a high level of organization and attention to detail.

Resourceful and self-motivated, able to take ownership of diverse responsibilities.

Proficiency in Google Suite, and intuitive understanding of modern technology applications and software required to operate successfully in a virtual environment

Active interest and substantive knowledge of GIFCT’s mission and focus areas
