About the role and the team:

We are seeking an Intellectual Property (IP) Policy Manager who will play a crucial role in developing and implementing IP risk mitigation strategies while working cross-functionally to ensure effective execution. This high-impact role will help develop how eBay enforces intellectual property rights globally across millions of listings.

This role drives IP compliance at scale by strengthening policy enforcement mechanisms and risk mitigation frameworks. It focuses on improving processes related to IP rights and protections to ensure consistent and effective compliance across the platform.

The successful candidate will have a background in intellectual property as well as experience with enforcing IP compliance on e-commerce platforms. They will work closely with a diverse team, focusing on improving both risk mitigation and compliance processes, while implementing effective policy enforcement guidelines related to IP rights.  The candidate will also enjoy working in a fast paced and global, operational setting, engaged in multidisciplinary projects and decisions involving anti-counterfeiting initiatives as well as eBay’s Verified Rights Owners (VeRO) program.

What you will accomplish:

  • Develop and maintain internal and external policies governing intellectual property (IP) rights, including internal knowledge resources and guidance.
  • Drive policy improvements by identifying gaps, developing action plans, and recommending improvements based on data and emerging trends.
  • Partner closely with Legal to ensure alignment with IP laws and business priorities, and collaborate cross-functionally with Risk, Customer Experience (GCX), and other teams to define risk tolerance and implement proactive controls.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination with Legal, Business Units, GCX, Engineering, Product, and other partners to drive IP policy decisions and implement across help pages, internal knowledge bases (CSKB), and customer communications.
  • Identify trends, inconsistencies, and operational difficulties to advise on seller experience improvements and strengthen IP compliance processes.
  • Support the development of training materials and enablement programs to educate internal teams and partners on IP rights and protections.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of IP compliance efforts, and provide actionable insights.
  • Generate insights on rights owner trends, including emerging risks, patterns, and key takeaways to inform policy and enforcement strategies.
  • Proactively identify risks and gaps, and influence cross-functional partners through regular forums and reviews.

What you will bring:

  • Strong understanding of intellectual property (IP) rights and enforcement, ideally within e-commerce or online marketplaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced, and highly collaborative global environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes, evaluate trade-offs, and drive process and system improvements.
  • Experience working with data to identify trends, generate insights, and advise on decision-making.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey sophisticated concepts to diverse partners.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across cross-functional teams, while also working independently to drive initiatives forward.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple workstreams.
  • Comfortable working with repetitive or operational tasks while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and quality.
