The Meta Legal team is seeking a motivated, organized, thorough in reviewing and producing accurate documentation candidate with sound judgment and interpersonal skills to join our Law Enforcement Response Operations Policy Team. The right candidate will have a commitment to delivering high-quality work on time and experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. This is a full-time role.

Responsibilities

  • Set direction for, develop, and maintain the operational policy and guidance governance framework supporting teams that handle a large volume of incoming requests from law enforcement and third parties
  • Define the standards, templates, and quality bar for operational guidance across the function, and drive their adoption organisation-wide
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate products into data disclosure tooling, ensuring the guidance framework keeps pace with product and tooling changes
  • Diagnose systemic operational policy gaps, design scalable solutions, and drive them through to implementation
  • Own novel and ambiguous operational policy problems, where no precedent exists, establish the framework, approach, and measures of success
  • Define and own the operational policy roadmap, sequencing competing priorities across multiple halves and articulating the rationale to senior leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Make and defend judgment calls on high-ambiguity, high-sensitivity matters
  • Direct the development of operational policy and guidance, integrating input from cross-functional teams
  • Track the progress of operational policies from submission through to implementation
  • Address operational policy-related issues in support of corporate strategy, policy, and objectives
  • Ensure proper tracking and reporting on engagement and outcomes of operational policy efforts, and provide cross-functional partners with information on operational policy development activities
  • Articulate operational policy background and supporting rationale to internal parties, including senior management, operations, and other internal stakeholders
  • Articulate and defend operational policy positions in internal meetings with Meta stakeholders, and build consensus where partners hold competing priorities
  • Drive alignment and land decisions across cross-functional partners without direct authority, escalating when a clear recommendation is needed where alignment cannot be reached
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, adapting the message to the audience
  • Build and sustain the senior cross-functional relationships needed to ensure that development and operational readiness requirements are understood and implemented
  • Draft and own operational policy-related materials, including reports, proposed documentation updates, documentation developed from legal guidance, and instructional content, with the ability to proof, revise, and edit copy to ensure both accuracy and quality of content, and to convert complex ideas and concepts into easily understood documentation
  • Own operational escalations related to sensitive subject matters from global team members, the quality assurance team, and cross-functional partners, and partner with the legal team on operational policy decisions
  • Act as the escalation point of reference for complex or precedent-setting operational policy questions
  • Mentor and coach colleagues on operational policy drafting, governance practice, and stakeholder engagement, raising the quality bar across the team
  • Bring clarity to ambiguity on behalf of others, enabling team members and partners to move forward on decisions independently
  • Identify and codify repeatable practices so that improvements scale well beyond your own workstreams
  • Ensure that all requests are scrutinized and handled in strict accordance with applicable laws, our terms of service, and our law enforcement guidelines
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on operational policy direction, risk and trade-offs, including documentation change management and metrics
  • Manage and prioritize multiple complex projects simultaneously, exercising sound judgment to advocate for and influence operational efficiency while appropriately balancing risk
  • Lead globally focused projects end-to-end, including those spanning multiple regions and cross-functional teams
  • Address sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic violence, child exploitation, images, videos, and writings, offensive or derogatory language, and other objectionable material
  • Given the global nature of the team and its cross-functional partners, adapt flexibly to different time zones to ensure effective collaboration and continuity of operations across regions
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required


Minimum Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field
  • 8+ years of experience in operational, policy, government, legal, compliance, privacy, or strategy experience
  • Excellent drafting and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, precise, and operationally sound guidance
  • Proven ability to manage and resolve complex problems and issues, using judgment in handling sensitive matters while maintaining confidentiality
  • Sound and impeccable judgment, with the ability to advise on complex, sensitive matters with confidence and discretion
  • Demonstrated experience owning ambiguous problem spaces end-to-end, including defining the approach and the measures of success
  • Demonstrated experience setting direction or standards that were adopted across an organization, beyond your own immediate workstreams
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with a proven ability to build relationships, influence and land decisions across teams and senior stakeholders without direct authority
  • Experience advising senior leadership on policy or operational risk and trade-offs
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and manage workload effectively in a fast-paced environment, without compromising quality
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and deliver high-quality outputs within tight turnaround times
  • Experience working at a tech company or with tech clients, including technical writing skills
