Job Overview:
Furnished Finder is seeking an experienced, business-minded Legal Director to build and lead our next phase of legal capability. This role will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and serve as the Company’s in-house legal leader.  As our platform grows in scale, regulatory visibility, and product complexity, this role will move us from reactive legal support to a proactive, strategic legal function.

The Legal Director will partner closely with Finance, HR, Product, Marketing, Operations, and external counsel to ensure compliance, enable growth, and manage enterprise risk.

As Furnished Finder continues to expand nationally and deepen its regulatory footprint, the Legal Director will be instrumental in protecting the platform, enabling innovation, and strengthening trust among landlords, tenants, regulators, and partners. This role represents a pivotal step in evolving Legal from a foundational function into a scalable, strategic capability.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Commercial & Corporate Legal Leadership
  • Review, draft, and negotiate all commercial agreements, vendor contracts, and strategic partnerships
  • Own and modernize contract lifecycle management, including renewals, notice periods, dispute tracking, and implementation of a contract management system
  • Advise Marketing and Product teams on truth-in-advertising, contests and sweepstakes, promotional claims, and privacy considerations
  • Serve as legal advisor on new products, verticals, pricing strategies, promotions, and marketplace initiatives
  • Partner with Finance on capital structure matters, equity administration (including 83(b) elections for profit incentive units), and corporate development opportunities
  • Oversee corporate governance matters, including drafting Board minutes, consents, and resolutions
2. Regulatory & Government Affairs
  • Provide subject matter guidance on landlord-tenant laws, short-term rental regulations, fair housing, ADA, and state-by-state regulatory frameworks impacting the mid-term rental model
  • Assist in preparing responses to government inquiries, consumer complaints, and competitive challenges
3. Risk Management & Data Privacy
  • Serve on the Company’s Risk Committee program, working cross-functionally with Finance, Engineering, IT, and external advisors to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate enterprise risks.
  • Advise on intellectual property protection, trademark portfolio management, and infringement matters
4. Employment & Internal Advisory
  • Advise HR and leadership on employment law matters, including performance management, leave of absence, compensation compliance, and policy development
  • Partner with HR to ensure compliance across workforce operations
5. Platform Trust & Compliance
  • Own and maintain online customer agreements, Terms of Service, and Privacy Policies
  • Advise Customer Support and Sales teams on interpretation and enforcement of platform policies
  • Help strengthen Trust & Safety operations through clear legal frameworks and dispute-handling protocols
  • Initial focus areas will include commercial contracting, regulatory analysis, and risk committee formalization, with other capabilities phased in over time.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active U.S. state bar membership (Texas preferred)
  • 7–10+ years of legal experience, with meaningful in-house experience preferred
  • Experience in a two-sided marketplace, real estate, travel, technology, or other regulated, multi-state businesses strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial contracting, regulatory analysis, corporate governance, and enterprise risk management
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, scalable solutions
  • Experience partnering with senior executives and Boards
  • Proven ability to build processes and systems in a growth-stage organization
  • High integrity, independent judgment, and comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment
