Location: Brooklyn, NY - Local Hybrid

About Etsy: Etsy is a global marketplace for unique and creative goods. We are a community-driven company, and our mission is to keep commerce human. We believe in the power of small businesses and the magic of handmade goods. Our Trust & Safety team plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our marketplace, ensuring a safe and fair environment for both buyers and sellers.

Team & Role Overview: The Trust & Safety organization at Etsy is dedicated to fostering a secure and trustworthy environment for our global community. Within Trust & Safety, the Risk and Fraud team is at the forefront of identifying, mitigating, and preventing various forms of risk that could impact our platform.

We're hiring an experienced and strategic Senior Manager to lead our newly established Credit Risk Vertical within the Risk and Fraud team. This critical role will focus on seller credit risk. You'll be responsible for building and leading the pillar that assesses the credit risk of our sellers.

This is a unique opportunity to build a new domain within a high-impact team, directly contributing to the financial health and sustainability of Etsy's marketplace. Your work will not only involve developing and implementing strategies to identify and mitigate financial losses from sellers who may struggle to meet their financial obligations, but also to help these sellers remediate their accounts and, when possible, support their continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Vision: Define and execute the overall strategy for identifying, assessing, and mitigating credit risk for Etsy merchants. Develop a comprehensive roadmap for the Credit Risk Vertical, aligning with broader Trust & Safety and company objectives.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of risk analysts. Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration within the team. Responsible for performance management, career development, and hiring for the Credit Risk Vertical.
Risk Identification & Assessment: Develop and implement sophisticated models, tools, and processes to identify merchants at risk of non-payment. This includes leveraging data analytics, behavioral patterns, and financial indicators to proactively assess creditworthiness and predict potential losses.
Mitigation & Recovery Strategies: Design and implement effective strategies to mitigate credit risk exposure and minimize financial losses. This may include, but is not limited to, developing tailored interventions, payment plan options, or other preventative measures for at-risk merchants. Collaborate with internal teams on potential recovery efforts.
Policy & Process Development: Establish clear policies, procedures, and guidelines for managing seller credit risk. Ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with other teams within Trust & Safety (e.g., Fraud, Account Integrity and Security), Product, Engineering, Analytics, Legal, Finance, and Seller Support to ensure a holistic approach to risk management and a seamless merchant experience.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for credit risk, monitor performance, and provide regular reporting to leadership on risk exposure, mitigation effectiveness, and financial impact.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging trends in credit risk management, and new technologies. Continuously seek opportunities to optimize processes, improve models, and enhance the overall effectiveness of the Credit Risk Vertical.
