About the Role
We’re looking for a Director of Trust & Safety to lead the strategy, execution, and evolution of trust and safety across our platform. This role sits at the intersection of policy, product, engineering, legal, and operations—and is critical to maintaining a healthy online ecosystem while protecting freedom of expression. You’ll be responsible for defining and enforcing platform rules, managing abuse and harm at scale, responding to emerging threats, and ensuring our approach to safety is transparent, principled, and resilient under scrutiny. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in complex, high-stakes environments and understands both the technical and human dimensions of online safety.

Salary Range: 80-120K
What You’ll Do
Strategy & Leadership
Own and evolve the platform’s Trust & Safety vision, strategy, and roadmap.
Lead, mentor, and scale a multidisciplinary team (policy, operations, investigations, vendor partners).
Serve as the internal authority on platform integrity, abuse trends, and risk mitigation.

Policy Development & Enforcement
Develop, maintain, and enforce clear, scalable content and conduct policies.
Balance safety, legal requirements, and free expression in policy design.
Ensure consistent, fair, and explainable enforcement across the platform.

Operations & Incident Response
Oversee moderation operations, including escalations, appeals, and high-risk cases.
Lead responses to major incidents (e.g., coordinated harassment, violent threats, misinformation events).
Build systems for rapid detection, response, and recovery.
Respond to law enforcement requests quickly and consistently.

Product & Engineering Collaboration
Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to embed safety into product design.
Guide development of tooling, automation, and AI-assisted moderation systems.
Use data to evaluate effectiveness, bias, and unintended consequences.

Regulatory & External Engagement
Collaborate with Legal and Public Policy on global regulatory compliance.
Represent the company in conversations with regulators, civil society, and industry peers.
Contribute to transparency reporting and public-facing trust initiatives.

Risk & Foresight
Monitor emerging abuse patterns, geopolitical risks, and platform misuse.
Stress-test policies and systems against real-world adversarial behavior.
Prepare the organization for future regulatory, cultural, and technological shifts.

What We’re Looking For
Experience
5+ years of experience in trust & safety, platform policy, risk, security, or related fields.
5+ years leading teams in complex, fast-moving environments.
Experience at a large-scale social platform, marketplace, or user-generated content service strongly preferred.

Skills & Expertise
Deep understanding of online abuse, harassment, extremism, misinformation, and platform manipulation.
Strong judgment under pressure; comfortable making difficult, high-visibility decisions.
Fluency in content moderation systems, enforcement workflows, and escalation frameworks.
Ability to translate abstract values into operational policy.
Excellent communicator—internally and externally.

Mindset
Pragmatic, principled, and resilient.
Comfortable with criticism from multiple sides.
Curious about how technology shapes human behavior.
Committed to transparency, consistency, and fairness.

Nice to Have
Experience working with AI/ML moderation tools.
Background in law, public policy, human rights, or digital ethics.
Experience managing global or multilingual moderation operations.
Prior engagement with regulators or participation in industry trust & safety forums.

Why This Role Matters
Trust & Safety isn’t just a compliance function—it shapes user trust, platform culture, and long-term viability. In this role, you’ll directly influence how millions of people interact online and how our platform shows up in the world.
